FUNCTIONS & ACTIVITIES  >  Introduction

 

National Domestic Workers’ Movement (NDWM) operates in 23 states in India and is involved in several initiatives at local, regional, national and international levels.

All programmes and activities are centered around achieving the objectives to our Mission Statement which are:

  Empowerment of Domestic Workers

NDWM encourages participation of domestic workers and leadership in the hands of domestic workers.

NDWM emphasizes that all domestic work has dignity as it is an indirect participation towards the growth of economy and contributes to the quality of life. Together, we stand for the personal dignity of each domestic worker.

NDWM works towards justice for all domestic workers, for their recognition as ‘workers’, for legislation for domestic workers and for public awareness of their dignity and their rights.

  • Crisis Interventions
    To support domestic workers in times of abuse. NDWM supports rescue, rehabilitation and re-integration or repatriation of domestic workers.
     

  • Networking
    NDWM networks with human rights lawyers, doctors and cousellors to help in the process of rescue, rehabilitation and repratriation. The Movement partners in several other alliances at local, national and international levels. These alliances and partnerships are for the common interests of domestic workers, child domestic workers and migrant workers
