   Anti Child Labor Day

Date: 12-Jun-2009

Signature Campaign: The Maharashtra Domestic Workers Movement protested against the Government Resolution of reducing the minimum age of a child to work from 18 years to 14 years.

On 12th June 2009, the team along with the children met the State Labor Secretary Ms. Kavita Gupta and submitted the signatures with the memorandum. The Labor Secretary said that the state government is committed to making the state child labor free.

   Minimum Wages for Domestic Workers

Date: 1-Jun-2009

The National Domestic Workers’ Movement in the North Eastern Region tried to pressurize the Government to recognize domestic workers as laborers.
The Domestic Workers in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala are now entitled to fair wages as per the Minimum Wages Act 1948.


   International Labor Conference

Date: 1-Jun-2009

In 2010 the 99th Session of the International Labor Conference will talk about “Decent work for Domestic Workers”, their discussions will focus on Setting Labor Standards for domestic workers. By 2011, the International Labor Organization (ILO) in Geneva with more than 156 member countries, including India will adopt an international standard listing our rights as workers.

The Ministry of Labor India has contacted NDWM and the struggles of domestic workers have been shared with them. The demands of Domestic Workers will now be included in the questionnaire that the Ministry of Labor India will submit to the ILO in August 2009.


   Labour Day

Date: 1-May-2009

On 1st May 2009, domestic workers of showed their strength on International Labor Day. They insisted that “The Rights of Domestic Workers’ are Human Rights”. 15000 domestic workers demanded their rights in one voice with slogans demanding “Fix Minimum Wage for Domestic Workers”, “Respect and Dignity”.

   The International Day of Hope

Date: 17-Feb-2009

The Movement in different stats celebrated the Day of Hope with children of domestic workers, slum children, children from welfare centres, brick kilns and bridge schools. This annual festival in 2009 gave children a chance to place their dreams and inner most aspirations into the Hope of realization.

   National Animators Meet

From : 29-Jan-2009 to 1-Feb-2009

Co-ordinators, animators and domestic Worker leaders will assemble for the biannual animators meet. This Meet will bring to the forum achievements of the Movement in various regions and discuss challenges for viable solutions. The Meet will also chalk out future plans for the Movement in meeting the objectives towards the cause of dignity and justice for all domestic workers in the country Venue : Mumbai, Maharashtra,


   International Day of Anti Trafficking

Date: 9-Dec-2008

United Nations has declared the 9th of December as International Day of Anti Trafficking. To mark this date, in 2009 the Orissa Domestic Workers Movement in collaboration with GAFSCA, Mahila Suraksha Mandal Sundargarh, IMKP, Samajik Seva Sadan and church. The event has lead to government response and panchayat awareness vigilance to control and report cases of trafficking.
The Venue of the program was Talasara Chowk from where many innocent girls are being trafficked


   Identity Cards

Date: 1-Dec-2008

Domestic Workers in Andhra Pradesh have been issued Identity cards in collaboration with the Labor Department.


   Labor Certificates

Date: 1-Dec-2008

The Domestic Workers in Kerala have received Labor Certificates and will avail of welfare schemes of the State.
