Dicennial Celebration of the Andhra Pradesh Domestic Workers' Movement

1000 domestic workers gathered to celebrate the dicennial anniversary of the Movement. After 10 long years of struggle, the anniversary had a cause to celebrate with its achievement of giving recognition for domestic workers in the state through the passing of the Minimum Wages Act. The unions of domestic workers are also acknowledged by the state Labour Departments and members of 6 unions were issued identity cards signed by the Asst. Labour Officer.

Inauguration of the Gowpyatha Makkala Kendra

The Gowpyatha Makkala Kendra is the rehabiliation home for traumatised children. It is a joint initiative of the Karnataka Domestic Workers' Movement and the Confidential Centre for Children of the Catholic University (KU) of Leuven in Belgium. The Home was inaugrated by Rector Marc Vervennen of KU Leuven. The Home seeks to create a safe, child friendly environment for rescued children in distress. Doctors of St. John's Medical College will also provide psychiatric care to the children.

Visit of Her Royal Highness, Queen Paola of Belgium

On 6th November 2008, Her Royal Highness, Queen Paola of Belgium visited the National office of the Movement. She was welcomed by our Foundress, Sr. Jeanne Devos who presented the work of the Movement to Madame and other visiting dignitaries. The visit was followed by a cultural-awareness programme put up by the domestic workers and children of the Maharashtra Domestic Workers' Movement.

Child Labor Free Society and Childhood for all Children

Independence Day Celebration in Mumbai

Domestic workers gathered together on Independence Day to hoist the national flag followed by a rally to the office of the MLA, Mr. Kishan Kathore. More than 1500 women participated and raised slogans to the leaders who have contributed to freedom of the country. Mr. Kathore assured his continuous support to the Movement.

State Level Meet in Tamil Nadu

Regional State Level Meet in Karnataka

Anti-Child Labour Day in Maharashtra

Children took out rally to sensitise society on the Ban on Child Labour in all sectors including domestic work. Over 100 children participated in the rally including children from slum areas and night schools. In one voice they unanimously expressed their solidarity towards the eradication of child labour.

One-day demonstration in Maharashtra to demand social security

The Maharashtra Domestic Workers' Movement organized a one-day demonstration in collaboration with the Unorganized Workers' Security Federation, demanding the government of Maharashtra to allocate, in the forthcoming budget, provisions for social security and welfare of domestic workers. The memorandum also included that domestic workers of Maharashtra be included into the schedule of Minimum Wages Act.
